The MC28AD-16 is designed for use with 28 PICmicro® MCUs from Microchip. It is the most versatile product in the PICBlock range so far. Serial input latched drivers provide 16 open collector outputs requiring the use of only 4 of the MCUs I/O lines. This greatly enhances the I/O capability of a 28 pin device to 32, while still maintaining functionality. The 16 uncommitted I/O lines can be utilised and configured as required and include the analogue functions associated with some of the 28 pin Microchip devices. The 16 O/C outputs provide power drive capability or extra digital outputs if used in conjunction with the optional onboard pull-up resistors.

The board has a compact footprint of only 102mm x 76mm x 23mm. As with other products in the PICBlock range the MC28AD-16 is a completely assembled board utilising quality components on a PTH ground planed PCB requiring only the addition of a 28 pin chip and the end user’s program. Ideal for development, it can also be utilised as part of a finished system and is also an ideal replacement for PLC modules.
The PICBlock MC28AD-16 also includes in-circuit programming connectors so the resident PICmicro® MCU may be reprogrammed on the fly (requires flash device) using programmers that support this feature. Because the
PICBlock MC28AD-16 itself is not a programmer, a separate PICmicro® microcontroller programmer, such as the EPIC Plus or Serial Programmer is required to program a PICmicro® MCU. The
PICBlock MC28AD-16 is ideal for use with
Boot Loader software, enabling you to download your code directly to the
PICBlock MC28AD-16 without a programmer, using the serial port on your computer.
